How To Get Stains Off The Tongue

How often have you licked a Popsicle off, enjoying it till the end, only to realise your tongue is now coloured?

As kids, it was fun to watch your tongue turn into a different colour with each candy and also comparing it with your friends was a sport. But this stain is a huge problem to most of the people, to an extent that it can cause social embarrassment too.

Also not many of you know the medical issues that these artificial colours can create on the tongue, bad breath being its least dangerous side effect.Hence here are a few tried and tested ways to get these stains off the tongue in the simplest and fastest ways.

Brushing Your Tongue!

More often than not, the artificial colouring leaves a layer on the tongue. To get these stains off the tongue, your first step should be to use toothpaste on your tongue. Yes, use any toothpaste that is available in any local pharmacy, super marts and the likes.

Brushing the tongue is actually recommended by dentists to be a daily ritual. Run the brush gently along the surface of your tongue, after putting toothpaste on it, to remove the layer of dead cells, food/colouring debris, etc. Also do not forget to wash it thoroughly for the next use.

Scraping The Tongue

If you do not want to go through the hassle of buying a tongue scraper and using it every day, you can simply brush your tongue with your daily toothbrush too. Simply move it in small circles across your tongue, lightly with little pressure.

Make sure the brush has soft bristles only else you may hurt your tongue. Toothpaste is not really necessary too if the stain is light and recent. Alternatively, there are toothbrushes available in the markets which have a tongue scraper on the underside of the brush, for example Oral B and Colgate. These combine the best of both and come in a small package!

Jambul Leaves For Your Tongue

This may seem a little surprising, out of the blue or even plain ridiculous! Don’t believe it? Try it! Jamun or Jambul leaves a purplish green stain on the tongue. But this stain is very helpful in getting off the other unwanted stains such as milk stains or those caused by nicotine (essentially smoking and chewing tobacco).

Agreed it gives a new stain altogether, but you can cut diamond only with diamond right? And getting the jamun stain off is very easy. Just use the above four mentioned methods, any one, and voila! The stains are gone!

Lemon Juice For Acidic Effect

Use lime or lemon juice on your tongue. Drink it or keep it in your mouth for a while. Lemon has acidic nature in it so it will kill the germs that cause the stains and your tongue would be as clean as new!

It is particularly effective with the most stubborn stains that refuse to let go of your tongue. You would have fun drinking lemonade while the acidic nature does its work on your tongue.
