Dental braces are the essential procedures in the field of orthodontics. They are also called as orthodontics braces. The dentists use this treatment to straighten teeth and bring them into line according to the person’s bite.
This procedure also helps to improve overall dental health of the patient such as the under bites, deep bites, cross bites, overbites and several imperfections in the teeth and jaw. The dentists apply the dental braces on the upper, lower or both sets of teeth as per the requirement. They can be applied on the people of any age but considered best for the young children.
Types Of Dental Braces
As mentioned earlier, dental braces are very valuable to develop the perfect condition of the teeth. Thus, they are of different types such as metal or plastic braces, invisible braces, traditional silver braces, gold braces, ceramic braces, stainless steel braces and many more. The dentists use any of these dental braces according to the situation of the teeth. Most of these braces are measured as perfect for the children but they can be effective for the adults too. In order to apply these dental braces, the specialists use various kinds of procedures, which are mentioned below.
Procedures of Dental Braces
X-Rays Of The Teeth
The dentist starts the procedure of dental braces by taking x-rays of the patient’s teeth. Nowadays, these x-rays are taken through three-dimensional digital model that helps to bring dental impressions more clearly than the traditional method.
Taking the x-rays of the patient’s teeth helps the specialist to examine the level of the problem and also to find out the possible options regarding the appropriate treatment to solve it.
Placing The Braces
After taking x-rays of the teeth, the dentists place the braces on to the teeth of the patient. The process starts when the specialist applies lip retractor and dries the teeth with air. An etchant is pasted to the teeth for applying the braces. It also helps to stick the cement properly to the tooth surface. Thereafter, a bracket is applied on to a tooth and then the cement is preserved with a light until it becomes hard. Further, the dentist uses an arch wire between the brackets and connects with elastic or metal bands.
Adjustment Of The Braces
Once the braces are applied on to the teeth, they are required to be adjusted on regular basis to shift the teeth into the right position.
After the proper adjustment of the braces, the dentist removes the rubber bands and then replaces the arch wire back into the mouth. The professional applies the new rubber bands to the metal brackets for closing the procedure of adjustment of the dental braces.
The dentist also focuses on the post-treatment procedures of dental braces. The specialist applies the retainers when the braces are removed in order to avoid the decline of the teeth. The dentist decides the time to keep on the retainers according to the condition of the patient’s teeth and meanwhile, they can be moved in and out of the mouth as per the requirement.
