Many may tend to hear notorious comments about their unclean teeth from family, close friends and the dentist.
In spite of brushing twice a day, the results and the comments remain the same. Then the problem may lie with the way brushing is being performed. Not to worry, it is the usual problem of many of us, who do not emphasize on brushing the inner side of the teeth.
The teeth that appear during smiling, laughing and talking, are vigorously cleaned only from the front portion, forgetting that there exist an inner side to them too. It is similar to keeping our looks clean and pleasant, forgetting about the proper diet and being careless about the inner health.
That does not work in the process as unhealthy individual cannot look so charming. Similarly, unclean or unhealthy teeth do not showcase a pleasant smile.
Importance Of Brushing The Inside Portion Of The Teeth
Brushing should not remain confined to easy and approachable parts of the teeth.
Bacteria remaining in the inner side of the teeth will do the same harm as that on the visible front part. This may result in a gum disease or decayed tooth or just a bad breath.
Tips For Proper Brushing The Inside Portion Of Teeth
Post cleaning the front surfaces of teeth, progress towards cleaning the inner surface of teeth, referred as the lingual surface. Make use of the toothbrush’s tip, directing down from the gum line. Perform it repeatedly for 2 to 3 times.
While brushing teeth hold the toothbrush on the inner side of lower teeth, starting from innermost teeth at the right or left end with bristles facing towards the lips. Perform a gentle movement from tooth’s end to upward, thereby cleaning in a vertical direction for each of the teeth.
Hold brush horizontally at an angle of 45 degrees such that now brush lines with the teeth. Now, move the bristles in a soft circular motion and move across the entire set of inner side of the lower teeth. Bristles should move across each tooth, cleaning away and dislodging any food debris.
On approaching the middle teeth, hold brush vertically with handle towards the ceiling and clean across the inner portion of the lower middle teeth. On passing through the middle teeth, again perform a gentle circular motion on the inner side of each tooth in the opposite direction, till one reaches the last tooth at the back of the mouth.
After completion of the inner portion of lower teeth, begin brushing the inner side of the upper teeth. Perform the same circular motion and vertical strokes back and forth gently, directed from up to downward side to clean the inside of each tooth.
Brushing The Biting Or Chewing Regions
Also, perform brushing on the biting or chewing regions of lower and upper molars and premolars.
After completing brushing, perform cleaning the tongue with help of bristles gently, to remove any residual bacteria and avoid bad breath. While performing brushing, keep rinsing the mouth in between once the froth gets generated. Do not delay spitting the froth as it may otherwise get swallowed.
